All directors or individuals who intend to become directors will now need to apply for a Director Identification Number (DIN) via the Australian Business Registry Services website. The application period began on the 1st of November 2021, and all directors will need to have one by November 2022.

Step 1. You can apply for your Director ID directly through the Australian Business Registry Services website.
Step 2. Gather the Documents you will need:
Your myGovID
Your Tax File Number (TFN)
Your residential address as held by the ATO
Two documents which can verify your identity
Possible identification documents could include:
Bank account details
An ATO Notice of assessment
PAYG payment summary
A dividend statement
Super account details
A Centrelink payment summary

Application Deadlines
Penalties for individuals who do not apply before the due date
Directors who do not apply for their DIN or provide false and misleading information in their application may face serious penalties. Directors can face criminal or civil penalties of 5,000 penalty units, which currently stands at $1.11 million.
Directors of a CATSI organization can face penalties of up to $200,000.
